Exploring Life Sciences: Frog and Worm DissectionEnrichmentDive into the fascinating world of biology through hands-on dissection, led by Middle School Science Teachers, Mr. Kuznik and Mrs. Wulftange! In this engaging life sciences class, students will explore the internal anatomy of both earthworms and frogs to gain a deeper understanding of how body systems function and interact. Starting with a simple invertebrate—the earthworm—students will identify major organs and systems before progressing to the more complex anatomy of a frog. This guided dissection experience will teach proper lab safety and dissection techniques while emphasizing respect for living organisms and scientific inquiry. Students will make observations, record findings, and compare the anatomical structures of different species to understand the diversity of life. Learning Objectives: Identify key internal and external structures of earthworms and frogs Understand how various body systems (digestive, circulatory, respiratory, etc.) work Develop skills in scientific observation, note-taking, and lab safety Explore the similarities and differences between invertebrate and vertebrate anatomy Materials Provided: Dissection specimens, lab kits, gloves, goggles, worksheets, and guided instructions. Math ClubEnrichmentMath Club is a live, online small-group class where students actively build math skills through instruction, practice, and problem-solving. Each session includes a short lesson, guided practice, and interactive activities such as solving real-world problems, working through challenges together, and explaining their thinking. Students review key concepts, learn new strategies, and apply them right away with support from the instructor. The focus is on understanding why math works—not just getting the right answer—so students build a strong foundation and confidence. Each student begins with a brief assessment so instruction matches their level. Lessons build week to week, helping students strengthen skills over time. Optional practice can be provided for families who want extra reinforcement at home. One to One MathEnrichmentOur personalized one-to-one math instruction is designed with your child at the center. Students receive clear, step-by-step guidance that blends concrete explanations of key concepts with thoughtfully guided practice problems. Success in math is built like a strong foundation—each concept builds on the one before it. That’s why we begin with a comprehensive assessment to identify your child’s current strengths and areas for growth. From there, we create a targeted learning plan that supports skill development, strengthens understanding, and builds confidence. This flexible online program allows students to choose session times that fit their schedule, making it easy to get the support they need when they need it. To schedule session dates and times, families should contact Willmar Community Education by phone or email. Important Enrollment Information: Enrollment closes two weeks prior to the program start date to allow time for scheduling. Child and Babysitting SafetyEnrichmentThe Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program from the American Safety and Health Institute provides everything you need to know for safe and successful babysitting. The students will receive their certification card and instructions to access a digital copy of the Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Student book at the end of class. From getting started with your business to collaborating with parents and children to key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Home AloneEnrichmentIs your child ready for the independence of being home alone? Parents need to be sure their children have the skills and maturity to handle the responsibility safely. Whether for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be a positive experience for a mature and well-prepared child. This class for children will address several topics relating to being “Home Alone,” including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after-school routines, phone calls and door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, fire safety, intruders, and first aid tips. The Little Mermaid!EnrichmentJoin Spotlight Theatre workshop for a fun and intense week of putting together a fully staged musical all in just 5 days! This is a great opportunity to be in a production with ALL the theatre elements! We will audition, learn our dances, songs, wear great costumes, and perform a great show for the community! Our story is based on the classic tale, The Little Mermaid, but with a twist! This is not the Disney version, but it is just as fun and entertaining! We have even more sea creatures…..and yes, pirates! Fishing in the NeighborhoodEnrichmentLearn how to fish confidently right where you live. This beginner-friendly course takes place at Robbins Island on Foot Lake, offering a hands-on introduction to freshwater fishing in a real local setting. Participants will cover the basics, including how to choose and use fishing gear, tie essential knots, identify common Minnesota fish species, and understand state regulations and seasons. The course also teaches how to read the water, select effective bait and lures, and practice responsible, conservation-minded fishing. No prior experience is required. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear; limited equipment may be available if needed. Younger participants should be accompanied by an adult to assist during the class.
