We will encourage children to make positive choices while promoting self-awareness, fostering creativity, and providing leadership opportunities. We offer homework help, crafts, activities, organized physical activities, outside time, social opportunities, computer lab, science experiments, cooking projects, and so much more! Once a month, we collaborate with 4-H/University of Minnesota Extension to offer a fun alternative to our regular programming. We are open holiday breaks, during late starts and early releases, and on days when school is cancelled. All non-school days must be registered for separately. Swim LessonsMini Sessions Adult + Child: ages 1-4 (child with parent/guardian) The purpose of this sesion is to provide a confidence-building experience while guiding adults in helping their child explore the aquatic environment through water play. Swim diapers are required in the pool for any children that are not yet potty trained. A parent, guardian, or household member (at least 15 years old) must accompany the child in the water. S26-SWIM-MINI-AD+CH Beginner- Introductory: ages 4+ Children will participate in a structured lesson with an emphasis on having a fun and fearless experience. They work on getting face wet, basic float techniques, rolling from front to back, and more. Safety skills include asking permission before entering the water and using a lifejacket. No prior swimming lessons required. S26-SWIM-MINI-BEG:INTRO Beginner- Confident: ages 4+ Students will work on the fundamentals of using a combined arm/leg motion and learn to achieve independent floats. The desired outcome is for the student to be comfortable with less instructor assistance. Safety skills include calling for help, throwing assists, and treading water. Prerequisite: Must be comfortable putting face in the water while doing assisted front float. S26-SWIM-MINI-BEG:CONF Beginner- Advanced: ages 5+ Students are practicing the front and back stroke, working toward swimming with face in the water and without assistance. No prior swimming lessons required. Octopus: ages 4+ Students will work on the fundamentals of the front and back stroke using a combined arm/leg motion and learn to achieve independent floats. Prerequisite: Must be comfortable putting face in the water while doing assisted front float. Jellyfish: ages 5+ Students continue to work on the front and back stroke, working toward swimming 10 yards with face in the water and without assistance. Safety skills include treading water and survival float. Prerequisite: Independent front and back float. Seal: ages 5+ Students will work on freestyle and backstroke with an emphasis on rotary breathing, body roll, and arm extension. Safety skills include using a lifejacket. Prerequisite: Be able to swim 10 yards independently with face in the water (no doggy paddle). Sea Otter: ages 6+ Students continue to refine freestyle and backstroke for the full length of pool and butterfly is introduced. Safety skills include learning how to help others in an emergency. Swordfish: ages 6+ Students continue to refine freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. The breaststroke, open and closed turns are introduced. Safety skills include water safety concepts, treading water, and survival float. Private Swim Lessons Private and Semi-Private swim lessons are available as staffing allows. NewTaekwondo/KarateEnrichmentMid-MN Total Defense offers a family-oriented martial arts program combining Taekwondo and Karate in an upbeat, positive, and structured format. Students learn focus, discipline, and confidence while developing real-world self-defense skills through age-appropriate instruction. Classes use games, drills, and traditional training to help students respond calmly and decisively to challenges like bullying, harassment, or physical confrontation. Parents or guardians may train free alongside their child. (Testing, uniforms, and equipment not included.) Stage 1 – Beginners & Advanced Beginners (F26-Y-TKDK-BEG&ADVBEG) Learn the foundations of Taekwondo and Karate through fun, energetic sessions that emphasize power, coordination, and self-control. Students practice stances, strikes, and kicks while developing confidence and discipline. Classes take place in the small gym at the south end of the school. Parents are encouraged to join at no cost. Stage 2 – Colored Belts (F26-Y-TKDK-COLORS) Continue skill development while preparing for your next belt rank. Students refine technique, learn new combinations, and deepen their understanding of martial arts etiquette, attitude, and respect. Higher levels continue on with even more advanced training focusing on strength, agility, and precision as students work toward higher ranks and black belt readiness. NewThursday ThinkersEarly Childhood Family EducationLearn and play with your little one each Thursday! The day starts in our gym with bikes, playground equipment, and a climbing wall. Next we will head to our early childhood classroom for time to engage with age appropriate activities, art and sensory play. While children continue their play, parents go to the adjoining room for learning, support and fun. The session ends with a circle time. Youth In GovernmentEnrichmentSince 1946, students across our region have participated in Youth in Government (YIG), an immersive four-day experience that includes focused discussions on current issues, a wide variety of social events, engaging evening activities, time for small-group reflection, and hands-on leadership development. The program simulates real government and is designed to be as close to the real thing as possible, giving students the opportunity to experience the legislative, judicial, media, and leadership processes firsthand while developing critical thinking, public speaking, collaboration, and leadership skills. The program starts in late fall when students in grades 8–12 join or form a YIG delegation, which will hold meetings leading up to the conference. High school students may serve as legislators, judges, attorneys, lobbyists, media representatives, or cabinet members. Eighth-grade students begin by participating in Leadership Corps, where they experience all areas of the program to help them choose how they would like to continue their YIG journey in high school. At the end of October, delegates from all over the state come together for the in-person LAUNCH event to prepare for the four-day conference held in early January. How can you participate? Delegates indicate their top three program area choices that align with their grade level and are assigned based on space availability, delegation balance, registration date, and other factors. Program areas include: 8th Grade: LEADERSHIP CORPS: All 8th grade students participate in Leadership Corps. Students explore all YIG program areas by creating and debating bills, arguing a court case, and writing media articles. 9–12 Grade: LEGISLATURE: Prepare a bill on an issue important to you, participate in committee hearings and floor debates, and vote on which bills should become law. COURTS: Research assigned cases and present arguments in a mock trial or appeals case. Judges preside over trials and make decisions regarding legal arguments and objections. 10–12 Grade: NATIONAL ISSUES FORUM: Research, present, and debate policy solutions to current national or international issues chosen by students. LOBBYING: Advocate for legislation on behalf of special interest groups. MEDIA: Research, create, and write articles for a daily newspaper, news releases, and broadcasts using both print and digital formats.2026 Fall -
